2017 is here! You may be getting on with the New Year by catching up with things you missed last year and checking out trends to look forward to this year.

How much do other digital marketers and strategists plan to spend in 2017 compared to 2016?

According to a survey sent out to Search Engine Journal’s Twitter audience, 71% say they plan to spend more on their digital marketing activities in 2017, while 14% plan to spend less, and 15% plan to spend around the same. These results show that investment in digital marketing activities will increase this year.

So, if you’re thinking of investing more or getting a better return on your digital marketing spend in 2017, now is the time to investigate your options!  But what digital marketing activities should you invest in?  Let’s take a look at some areas to focus on to make the most of your investments in 2017.

Digital Marketing Investments in 2017

What digital marketing activity (or activities) should you invest in this year?

Before making any decisions, it pays to complete an audit of all your current online marketing activities.  What is working well and what needs improving?  More importantly, what is your target market doing online and where can you align your marketing to capitalise on demand?  What are your competitors doing and how can you unhinge them?  Traff1k D1g1tal complete audits for our clients before we propose solutions – an audit provides our clients with clear activities and outcomes, ensuring the best return on investment is always being derived.

Digital Strategy

Your digital strategy should soon follow your audit, mapping out your initiatives for 2017.  It needs to be flexible and open to change, as your competitors react to your marketing efforts, demand trends and patterns change, or even the industry changes.

Search Engine Marketing

Getting your website to the top of the Google is a big step towards making yourself known and getting those needed sales, sign-ups, or conversions.  You show up at the right place (top of the SERPs) and at the right time (when you’re exactly what users are looking for during their searches).

Social Commerce

2016 was a big year for Social Media and 2017 will be even bigger.  With the implementation of the right Social Media strategy, could Social Commerce generate more sales than traditional Search Engine Marketing?

Whatever digital marketing activity you decide to focus on, make sure it aligns with your goals for 2017.
